On the 1st of August 1981, a New York based TV channel was created. The purpose was to show music videos. At that time there was nothing of this sort and it was a big hit. This was the first ever broadcast made on MTV:

They used the clip from when Neil Armstrong flew of and stepped on the moon to show how this was also a new, world changing matter. They could have been also iplying that they are ready to create a revolution as the astronauts did and they did just that.

The name of this song is very significant as it's saying video has taken over radio. Audio had now been taken over by visuals and after this a huge demand for music videos had began.
MTV was the start to a music video craze and now there is not one song by a signed artist that hasn't got a video with it. Videos have become that important that it isn't just about the music anymore.
